my PDA has SD I/O which is important nowadays considering CF is old and rediculously unreliable compared to SD....
SD cards with 256mb of space and a wifi card built in as one are commonplace now... but such devices can only be used by SD I/O capable devices...
youll find most new devices have that capability

u can pick up a 1930 (hp ipaq) for $350... about the cheapest pocket pc, (thats why i got it)
pro: 200MHz cpu, 64MB ram, add a 256MB SD card, for about $40... runs fine, and is the smallest profile available (to my knowledge)
runs everything fine except emulating 3d gameboy advance games... runs the 2d ones fine... (ie, zelda runs great, NFSU is very jerky...)
cons: no wifi, or blutooth, only has usb connection to pc, unless u buy wireless SDI/O cards...

Oh Asus are also bringing out a range of new PDA's, they look quite impressive and have 3 models that range from $400 to $1000.

I'm kind of over pocketpcs... and are looking more toward a tablet pc.
