Are there any decent flight sims out there with persistent worlds, Ie you are part of a squadron and can take on other squadrons or fly missions etc

it's old, but it's a classic... if Tie Fighter had MP i'd recomend that over XvsT any day... i'm playing through Tie fighter SP atm...
but yeah, cos it's old, there are patches out to fix all the bugs, include D3D support, soo many downloadable missions and mission creators it's not funny...

how bout you try IL2 or Lock on they both have huge online servers and you can run them on lan so you can team up in a squadron and rape, also for IL2 there is an inspirenet server in NZ that james and i play on that puts you on the field with 2 teams with mission objectives to bomb protect and such so say your the germans in the battle of britain map you have to bomb the radar stations, airbases and citys or provide cover for the guys in the bombers but the british have to shoot down the bombers

No its not standard IL2 you need IL2: Forgotten Battles (stand-alone game) and Aces Expansion Pack to play the above described game. I'm not sure how much forgotten battles or aces is though...

you can get forgotten battles and aces expansion pack in one pack called the IL-2 platinum pack or something, and it costs about $80.
and you can quite easily play on dialup without lag. :)

I'll vouch for that :P *still kicks in dial up anyway*

It's actually dial down.

Cool will look for it.
Does it need a joystick?
James

if you want to be serious with any flight sim, you'll need a joystick.
You can pick up a decent one as general fuct did for his brother for only ~$30.
But to answer your question, no, you don't need one.

XvsT on the other hand, does need a joystick... afaik it won't launch without one... but u can play in game with a mouse...
if there's enough interest in XvsT then we'll have to get some huge games going @ CCGL... and it's still very playable online with 56k... as long as u get the D3D patch

i dunno... it might just be me... but i always found the XvsT MP better than XWA...
either way, the offer i made a while ago to buy a pizza and coke @ CCGL to any1 who can beat me @ XvsT still stands ;)

No, because that's a -py arcade game where the planes are all fake and made up, and you fight against giant zepplins and stuff
Actually it kind of kicked - and had pretty good graphics but I didn't know it was multiplayer ?
