anyone know anything about bead blasting for alloy rims for a car?

ie, how much it costs and any places on the coast that do it?

I'm just curious thats all because i don't feel like devoting two weeks of my life to using autosol to try and clean ONE wheel, let alone all four. :D

any spray shop can do it I think it costs about 50 for all for. You can get them powdercoated for about 70 bucks a rim too

interesting.

when i get home ill take a pic of my rims and maybe you can give me some sort of an idea of how they will turn up.

its just i am willing to put time into making my car look good (especially now that i found out there is a huge active cressida community, aussies too) except days on one rim is fkn rediculous. so i just wanna get em professionally cleaned.

How would they look powder coated? Do you know where i could find an example?

I don't have any examples but If you go to a panel beater/spray shop they can show you some.
If you want the ceda to look good get some 17-18 inch deep dish rims dump it and get some dark ass tint. Should look Jap VIP Style. I can send you some examples of those via email

i've been reading about mods i can make to my cressida but being an '83 model im thinking the most i might do looks wise is possibly depending on cost get the jap import bumpers coz they look wicked and either get the rims restored or get new ones.

also obviously get the car detailed and (maybe) some nice seat covers, but the interior of the car is in such perfect condition (looks like no one's even sat in it!) that i may just keep it how it is and try and keep it in good condition.

also i'm 100% definite going to get it tinted. what's the darkest you can legally go? also, how much would it cost for a fairly large car like mine? hopefully not much... lol

last but not least i want to see if i can improve fuel economy or performance...

also just to make it clear
the jap VIP look sounds nice, but i dont wanna rice it.

it's a cressida, not a civic.

so a kick ass suave look yes, but rice, no

Yeah on the turbo side of things alot of guys get the Twin turbo motor out of the soarer and drop it straight in not a hard job, but you want it to get changed to manual if you do. Get some bigger brakes and a stiffer susp setup and it would go like the clappers with the handling and stopping power to back it up. Would blow alot of Commos away and it would be very funny to see that happen. will get some pics organised tonight.

In Japan this is called the "President" done up VIP style.

that would be funny hey!

I am considering different things performance wise i can do to the car, but would i have to go manual tranny if i was to get a turbo?

I mean i know it would be the preferred option, but it's probably too much cash for me to want to spend. however any bolt on options will be graciously considered.

I want to get one of those cyclone things that apparently increases fuel economy too

and after i get the car tuned up i definitely want to get stuff like the O2 sensor checked out, because apparently those things sometimes never get replaced through the life of the car and can adversely affect fuel economy and performance, same with the fuel filter!

those cyclone things are a hoax, get a good aftermarket air filter and a good exhaust system. If you haven't already done a major service on it do it ASAP. Do all fluids ie. oil brake and p/s . spark plugs and gearbox and diff oil and all filters. you might not think it but it will increase fuel enconomy by a little bit.

Go Sleeper.

Spend all ure hard earned cash on gear under the bonnet. Leave the car looking stock except for a decent lowering job, a basic set of rims and a real dark tint.

A cressida that looks normal, actually has some power would surprisingly kewl.

I gave up on modding my car.....way outta my price range atm. Although a friend of mine just got a 4x4 Cultus version of my sedan.....i so want to drive it....thats a sleeper.

yep a major service definitely is on the to-do list, and fairly close to the "to do first" part :)

a major service may cost a bit of a bundle but it will be worth it if it also helps diagnose any problems that the car might have too.... like the thing is bulletproof and i havent noticed anything wrong with it as of yet...

the car had 165k km on it when i bought it three months ago (got 172,500 now lol) but im willing to bet with that low amount of km on it the HG is probably still the original and would be wearing out soon, and i can hear a little bit of a whine from the diff when the car's at about 2500rpm in third gear.... doesnt sound serious, no knocks or clunks, but I know that i probably need new bearings in the differential or something and that would stop that

I JUST WISH THAT MINE WAS A 1984 MODEL INSTEAD OF AN 1983 BECAUSE THEN I MIGHT HAVE HAD LEATHER SEATS! hahaha

i look forward to getting it performance wise to the point where it smokes a commie, that would be hilarious :D

just buy the leather seats and put them in yours, if the 84 is the same model as yours they should just bolt straight in. A good forum to join is [/url]www.toymods.org.au. They will be able to give you a heap of info on toyotas

Is ures Manual or Auto ? basically all australian cressidas are automatic.

What size engine is it ? 2.8L SOHC

Number of Cylinders ? straight six.

Fuel Injected ? Yes, EFI

How much it weigh ? I have absolutely no idea. THe manual probably says but im inside now and its in the car

and jimmy - i already attacked the tow bar with the metal polish, and its shiny as the chrome on the car :D

If you're still stuck for the rims, I can paint them for you.

Powder coating is good in that i can reach places a spray gun can't, but you just don't have the options when it comes to colours and finished (Metallic, pearl, etc).

very pimp indeed! but my car has chrome trim. so it's pimpin too. :D

tempus, do you know how much it would cost for all four wheels to be cleaned and painted?

in my above photo its kind of hard to see with detail the wheels but they are the pseudo-spoke alloy wheels which are a real pain in the ass to clean...

also, anyone here know how much i can expect to spend for the darkest legal tint (or illegal tint, i've never heard of someone getting booked for dark tint lol) and where abouts i can go for it?

exactly what i plan on doing.

all i wanna do exterior wise is perhaps get the cressida aftermarket bumper that suits my car so it still has the cressida original look, but the bumper then looks better than the urethane one thats on there at the moment, and perhaps as you said get some different rims and tint the windows. that is as far as i would go looks wise....

a sleeper cressida would be mad though.
Like the one i saw where it looks standard but the guy's dropped a V8 into it.....

bwahahaha

Jimbo, everyone has their own opinion, but get yourself a set of rims bro.

A set of low pro 6 spokes (white) and a subtle bodykit would set the car off. Lowering would help too. No-one likes a 4x4.

Just keep checking eBay bro. Plenty of car related bargains to be found.

Damn no edit option.....

James, if you're after some aftermarket seats I have a pair of brnad new OBX Daytonas I can sell you. Also have 2 brand new 4 point SAAS harnesses. They're cool as but would like lame in my wagon.

Would look the goods in the Cressie though.

Well, mine are black. And your car's white isn't it?

Would look tidy as. Well.... What colour is your interior?

You could always call Tru-Fit carpets and get new carpets if it's like an old man poo brown colour.

naa the interior is like a blue colour and theyre really nice blue cloth seats (still look brand new) with dark blue vinyl undersides and edging. the interior trim in the car is blue too, it looks alright, but yeah, im just wondering how those sorts of seats would look in my car hehe

carpets are a blue colour too, and its all clean and fine except for the passenger front side, carpets a bit stained (someone split something it looks like) but i guess i can just shampoo it

James

ive used autosol on all the chrome so its so reflective you could use any chrome bit like a mirror
