Wireless can go up to a recorded 44KM @ 2mbit

802.11A is much better,

its can do upto 108mbits in Turbo Mode
and is in the 5 ~ 5.8500 Range, Less Interference,

Though The OLD pringles can wont work :( with A

i actualloy tryed that at work today.

the can has more of a Shotgun style then a directional

pfft, you dont want 802.11a , tis .e

-py range, and its not as widely used
use that and youll be using something which isnt standard
use 802.11b or 802.11g and if you have a laptop you can go to any wireless hotspot in the world almost and get a connection

btw 802.11b and g cannot communicate with 802.11a

Try the links adsor has running, there are several private access points in woy woy, most of them would be happy to connect to you. The water tower guy springs to mind.

There are a few others around.

Pringles can antenna is more of a multidirection antenna. the lineing of the pringles can is not conductive (check yourself with a multi-meter) the only reason you would use the pringles can is as a holder you could just use cardboard to the same effect.

Try talking to the guy who runs PC People down in Umina, he know some people that are interested. Also, a friend of mine is currently working on putting up an AP at his place at Umina. So yes, there a re a few around, I know that there is one in Woy Woy, as some guy who lived down in Umina moved up to Woy Woy, and his gear with it.

I would definatly be in this if i had someone to connect to. but that is very very unlikely because im on a hill with tree's around me.

oh well. if anyone else is behind westfield tuggerah let me know and we might be able to get a connection happening.
eg. I connect to someone and then we can both work out on getting someone closer to the network connected and so on.

Quilib the industrial estate near you has several access points if you want free bb :)

The pringles can does not nessecarily need to be conductive, it just needs to be a reflector, metal is a good start. It may just be that it is proportional to the wave length. I'd say it is coated like beefcake said.
