Rack Equipment

Hey Guys,

Im trying to setup a lab to help with studies, and Im after a 19" cabinet.. Also looking out for any rack mounted cases / computers I can get my hands on as well. I plan on building a farm of low powered computers to use for different servers and .e ;) All in fun.

well I have a nice 19" rack at work... but its kinda in use atm...
but if you want low poerwed computers for building a cheap cluster these are what you want

does it have to be a rack? cos my work will be flogging off about 20 P3 933 HP Vectra's soonish... and they will go very cheap

i'll get a semi-solid date on monday... but i think the rough date is about feb/march next year... we would probably be looking for a couple of hundred each... but again, this is just rough, i'll have to talk 2 the boss about it

Bumpity Bump...

Still looking, keep in mind that Im not just after a rack here.. Im after computers, and anything else I can jam in there as well :P At the moment Im on the lookout for adleast three rackmount systems for starters.

1 x Symantec Enterprise Firewall Server.
1 x Symantec Network Security Server
1 x Fedora Core 3 boxen :P

Ive been looking at the price of new equipment, but Id certainly like to hunt down some second hand stuff if possible :P

Well, Ill keep trying to grab machines now.. But Ill probibly have plenty of space left in the rack (if I can find one) by then :)

So far Ive got the networking side of things done and ready to go.. I have a small communications rack that is housing all the internet / network stuff at the moment, but it will be moved to the full size rack when I get one.

* HP 24 port 10/100 switch (donated by Pete at work, thanks).
* IBM 24 port 10/100 hub (donated by Dave, you da man).
* Netgear 24 port 10/100/1000
* Netgear 8 port 10/100/1000
* Dlink DSL-500 (but Im replacing it with a Cisco 837.

ADSL router is connected to the hub (which has two IDS boxes connected to it watching traffic.. Then goes to the firewall box, which goes to the 100mbit switch which services the whole house, which also has the 24 and 8 port gigabit switches for conncetion between the fileservers ;P
