Hey when the lan gets a little longer... Like 2 and 3 day events. Would it be possible to make the UT2K$ event into something like a bombing run or onslaught. Me and Dodo_Extinct where playing these mods on the weekend and we found these game mobes to be very intense (against 30 bots) Suggestions on teams and such
Bombing Run: say 5 each team
Onslaught: 10 each team
Some kool maps are
Bombing run: Skyline or bridge of fate
Onslaught: I forget what maps we played.... I will have a look this arvo when i get home
anyway just a suggestion

ok, blot0 is the admin to talk to for all things UT2k4... but as far as i'm concerned i'd love to see our UT2k4 comp incorporate some different gametypes or even mods...
the only problem will be getting the interest level up more so we have more clans competing... atm we get about 8-12 players in this comp, so we have to keep it in a format where that will work...
i'm still up for a 1vs1 instagib CTF tourney tho... now thats intense

Well if next lan is 2 days.... Maybe we could run the normal UT2k4 comp and later run a pilot of other game types??
/me looks at blot0
That way the npormal comp isn't disrupted and we get a chance to see if it would survive

i'd also like to add my thoughts on comps in general
I think there's enough as it is. we've seen we can fit it into a less than 12 hour event, so why not leave the comps how they are, and then we'll still have the fun comps and plenty of "free time" where theres no comps on and some wicked pubs can come up. anyone who played in the dying minutes of CCGL in that CS:Source pub knows how much fun it was.
Perhaps just interchange a comp every second or third LAN. eg, DOD changes to tribes : vengeance, which the lan after that it changes to COD united offensive, the LAN after that , UT2k4, lan after that Soldiers: HOWW2, the lan after that CS:Source (assuming it doesnt take over CS1.6, which i definitely think it should)
what do you guys think of that?
Oh and kaygo, don't be a tosspot. I said it regarding red orchestra because i am the person to talk to regarding that @ ccgl...

ok... there are many new games that should be incorporated into comps... cos alot of gamers (myself included) love the competitive aspect of gaming as well as the more casual pubbing... hence y i'm going to be running the CS:S pub as a regular thing...
also going to be looking at getting comps for these games going
Dawn of War
Tribes:Vengence
UT2k4 1vs1 DM
yes, there are enough comps atm, but not many ppl going into em... even the CS comp only had like 4 clans in it @ CCGL26... plus i'm assuming the 500player lan will be an overnighter at least... so y not run a massive comp for it?

Fair enough, but we don't want to get in over our head. sometimes the most fun part of a LAN is the pub gaming (coral sea bf1942 in the members stand anyone? :) )
I see where you're coming from, and in the case of the large LAN you want to run more comps, sure, but not TOO many. as pubbage is lots 'o' fun and its good to just relax and have some fun gaming without the pressure of a competition environment..
do you know what i mean? (valvoline?)

i agree we need to find a balance for both, but i think it would be good to have set times for pub games, the same as we have for comps...
so it might be a case of 2-6 is the CS comp... then dinner from 6-8 then a CS:S Pub for an hour or 2 and finish the night with a tribes:vengence pub...
organised times like this means that the servers can be prepared beforehand and generate more interest for the game so that COMPS will have more players... and good comps generate interest which will get more ppl pubbing...

Pub games are l33t, but only when they're not like alcs CS:Source, when IT KEPT CRASHING
/looks at alc with death stare :x
Nah damages was good, dedicated, no lag part from l33ches. Which damage stopped.
CS:Source should have a destructible scenery option, like red faction. OMG keke break the walls and hide !!1!!!1oneone

My problem with the UT2K4 comp is it is a DM and me like many other people go . at 1 VS the rest games.... I work ALOT better as a team.... Hence why i love CS so much. I find it alot more fun being in a team and working together and covering each other then running around on my own and getting absolutely pwned.... I find no fun in that.... Also i like UT2K4 Hence why i am asking to make it into a team based comp..... Think about it a 10 man a side onslaught , That would be intense...... This is only a suggestion but please take it into consideration.... The whole everyman for himself concept turned me away from the UT2k4 comp @ 26.....
(p.s I only speak for myself, Not anyone else)

ok, i had like 5min to setup that server... next time it will be running from an official source install through steam and will work no problems at all... plus it will be on a dedicated server as well (hopefully)
Lets get something straight, we are not telling ppl what they are going to be playing.
We host whatever servers we can. If we cant & a ccgl patron would like to host a server for a specific game, then they can contact an admin or Turri to have it hosted.
There is no limit to how many genre's of games we host. We will host 10 CS servers if there is demand for it, rather than just say "there is too many games of "CS" so we will just can it & run "Rome: Total War".
I for one love WWII games, I will play whatever people wanna play. We will not limit these servers just because there is already one running.

You can blame me for that one... I was trying to prove that it wasn't the offical version by crashing it with the %n exploit :)

Pesonally i would be happy with Onslaught, as im not a fan of bombing run.
Why? Fast, action packed, and i love it. :P
6 to 10 people would fit the bill nicely.

Onslaught would be good, great team game.
Specially if you add the persistant RPG mod in, with magic weapons and stuff. Just gives it that edge, specially on the long games 30min plus.

wow.. this thread come out of nowhere.. i cbf reading it all..
just just to clear some things up..
the UT2K4 comp @ ccgl is an individual comp... so any team based modes will not be in or part of the compitition..
feel free to run your own pub servers in these game play types..
in my honest opinion.. onslaught is totally -.. bombing run is ok and can be fun..
instagib is rather poor aswell, as it requires little to no skill at all to play.
