That sounds about right. What ISP did you sign up with?

My friend signed up with Internode and had to wait a whole week.

i had all my modem and equipent coz i bought it myself, but after applying for ADSL it took me six days. They say it can take up to two weeks but i didnt mind that it was only 6 days :)

Additionally, it was on for a day before they told me that it was connected. Sent me an email, they did.

"Your adsl is now connected."

Really?! I only checked the email USING my adsl! lol

Mine took a few days, but not too long.

When I got switched over to 1.5 that only took less than 48 hours, Telstra just had to do their bit and a quick reboot of the modem and my config said 1536/256 I sqealed :)

Im currently churning to Westnet 1.5 80GB, so we will see how long that takes....

God Hotkey are fags, as if buy out MY Isp :(

I applied for it like 2 months ago..... Got the modem on the 4th of this month and got an email yesterday saying we could hook up and be ready to go.... However i hooked up last night and DSL light was flashing...... count backwards from 10 ring up ozemail tech support only to find out my phone line at my house or where it connects to the house is faulty.... so now i have to wait for the ALL MIGHTY TELSTRA to get off their fat asses and get out to my exchange to check it THEN!!! If it isn't the exchange they have to make an apointment to come out to my house and chekc for faults there........ [/rant] . I HATE TECHNOLOGY SOMETIMES

Took 3 weeks about 2 years ago when i had it setup..

It was approved after 10 days, then telstra said the phone number didnt match the address supplied...

Confirmed to telstra that it was indeed the correct details, 7 days later, got the same error...

ISP said i should contact Telstra directly and confirm it. ISP told me that if Telstra confirmed it, to get the operators name, phone number and department and to supply it to the ISP. Did this, 3 days later line was activated and working.

Took me about 5 hours on the phone on my side to get it working though... Was ringing the ISP every 3 days, then was ringing telstra every few days... the final confirmation of the details took me 3 hours on its own... was 7pm at night and i was ringing every department... ended up speaking to some chick in queensland in the faults department who checked it all for me and said there shouldnt be a problem.

After the line was activated and working i called her back to say thanks, was a very helpful telstra employee :)

While we are ranting outside of the phone company rant area, I got my mobile phone with boost mobile, a sub-company of optus, I waited for the network lock period to be over, then i went in to network communications and asked the guy who is supposed to know what goes on, and he said to get a churn pack, so i did, then i rang up optus and said what the guy told me, then the optus people told me that I didn't in fact need a churn pack. FRUCK. So i redirect myself to network communicaitons in woy woy again, telling the guy that I din't need one, so i got a recharge pack for optus, rang them up and the person on the other end said they don't know what I wsa talking about. FRUCK. SSSOOOOOO......., I waited until about 7 o'clock at night and RANG THEM AGAIN, the lady on the other end said, no problem andrew, it will be fixed up. I was like, thankyou you have been most helpful.

ALSO, i wanted to get teh freetime offer. So i told them that I wanted that. They said, should be online in the next 24 hours. So 24 Hours later, I rang Dean and it cost me like 10 bucks, so i ranf them and they said they didn't know. I rang later and he said OK it should be fixed in 24 Hours, and he put me on hold, then took me off repetitively for about 30 Minutes, then thankfully he said, it is all fixed up now and all your call credits have been refunded, even though i spent bout 4 bucks on sms's

or maybe its... oh well

Telstra Cable.. is that any good rolphy?

Guess whos back :|

10-11-2004, 06:26 PM
If cable was available on the coast I'm pretty sure the other 499 members on this site would definitely know about it before you. Also, why would it be available first in Kariong, of all freaking places. Gosford, Wyong or Tuggerah would be the first to receive it if any.

Please refer us to a linky of the plan you're on Rolphy.
You dumb fuck.

i hate telstra.....

1st time i had adsl activated it took about 4 days.
when i moved only 2km away it took the fcuks 4 weeks to get around to me.

James
10-11-2004, 09:53 PM
they said to me that up to 2 weeks and i was expecting that minimum, so getting it before was a bonus.

I woulda been ticked if it took longer tho.

My churn to Westnet is scheduled to happen on the 15th November 8)

1.5/256 40Gb / 40Gb (On peak & Off Peak) MmmMmmMM

I hate Hotkey so much. My Net was down for a total of 9 hours yesterday, 4 hours the day before, 7 hours the day before that, and for 16 hours when Hotkey announced the buyout of Dart Internet was complete.

HOTKEY RUINED A PERFECTLY GOOD ISP! BASTARDS!

James
11-11-2004, 08:33 AM
perhaps iinet will buy them out and make them good like how theyre buying out all the other -py ISPs and making them good

AlCaTrAzz
11-11-2004, 08:47 AM
record so far is 18minutes by eXetel i think... they managed to get hold of a techie at the exchange like a minute after the order came in... they guy didn't believe the isp when they told him his ADSL was active...

James
11-11-2004, 09:02 AM
and i don't believe it either. The time it takes for the request for application even to get to telstra wholesale would be way more than that amount of time, then you have to account for

-line checking
-noise measuring
-exchange related stuff, setting the line for a certain speed
-telstra wholesale replying to the ISP that their application request has been successful and completed
-isp getting back to customer saying its ready
-isp sending out gear (if not already acquired some other way)
-postage
-gear turning up
-setup
-working

even stopping at the point where the line is activated, and not including other associated times, it still is going to take AT LEAST BARE MINIMUM a day.. and thats assuming you've got extremely bored telstra employees sitting on their cans doing nothing

AlCaTrAzz
11-11-2004, 09:14 AM
go look at whirlpool... they have a similar thread atm where ppl are talking about it including ISP REPRESENTATIVES!!!

Your phone details are stored in a database. When you apply, a script checks the database and spits out a result. If it passes then it will take from 2-8 days to get activated. The port needs to be prgrammed, which is done from a call centre. A technician gets sent to the exchange to activate it (takes 12min + 2 to check)

If it fails then someone checks it to see if it can be rewired (transposition) to make it work. This takes about 2-4 weeks for the check to be done, long delay. Once that has happened it gets assigned to a technician to do, should be about 2 days may be a week to happen. (i do this sometimes) The work only takes 1 to 4 hours to do, at which time your line will be dead.

After it is rewired it gets sent back to wholesale, who program it and notify the isp (one to two weeks) and presto you get adsl.

If the data base has errors, and or the script then problems do occur. Note: no physical check is ever made on a line until a fault is reported.

I currently have a list of people who i'm helping. PM me if you want, but don't hold out for miracles.

Miracle alert: if you live near fagans road in lisarow, a minimux is scheduled to be installed there. I'll need to check that a little more to confirm it and get a date, but thats not bad.

Investigating problems with glenorie on wednesday if you live there as well ;-)

Actually empire bay is a little bit of a challenge. Your exchange is saratoga i take it. Read the message, 7 weeks is about average if you need a transposition, and you will need one........

Been waiting 2 and a half weeks since I applied for my DSL from IINet so far. Went into 'provisioning' on Friday so I'm not looking at having it for another week or so?
