you can run firewalls on all the network servers.. and possibly the good hubs to only allow certain stuff through

I sure as hell wouldn't want ot be the guy going around telling all 6270 people to stop leeching..... I woul dget sick of hearing my voice
Something like that would be fully funded by dlink or cisco. They wouldnt have the problems we do.

It can be done:
1. Using managed switches.
2. Using routers between the switches (whether this is an appliance or a computer with software).
It wouldnt be hard to block everything except for ports used by games.

then you just use a port a game uses for the dc++ hub :D... :P
but then traffic classing and vlan's would come into play

the question is... would they bother trying to ban leeching? how many TB would there be on the DC hub? whats above a TB anyway?

I can imagine our kids in the years to come thinking that a 128 petabyte USB stick is completely normal...
omgsh, they're trying to break a record for the most people on a single game server..wonder what game it is..
anyway the server has 32 procs running datacentre :o

actually, yeah, what game allows the most people in one server ?
James

i rkn some sort of MMORPG
Tribes 2 is the first FPS with 128 players, and don't think any have topped that..
but yeah, it'd be a non FPS game if they wanted to get some kind of record.

probably something like an EQ server.
"CS-record attemt is on
20041127 15:30 / louie
After 25 minutes from the start over 1000 players connected to the server, but there's plenty of room and alot more bandwidth to spare. So hop on and tell all your friends to join you, so you can say that you was one of those who set the world record in simultanious cs-players on one server. "
Turns out they just started as many CS servers on the one box as possible
James
29-11-2004, 08:36 AM
oh ok.
you could set maxplayers in CS:Source to 1,000 if you wanted to, but there wouldnt be enough spawn points, only enough for 40 players lol
AlCaTrAzz
29-11-2004, 08:36 AM
ud need a custom map and a box with alot of bandwidth to try that
James
29-11-2004, 08:49 AM
no you wouldnt, like i said - you would only be able to spawn 40 people on any standard map.
Unless you meant you actually wanted to have 500vs500 players in CS:S
that would lag even the mightiest of computers
