Ok, I just got the new HDD for my HTPC after the old one died, I boot of the windows install disc, I have formatted the drive both quick and full, it copies all the files fine and when it reboots and goes to boot off the drive it gives me "error reading disc", I have tried the drive on different IDE cables and IDE channels, and have tried 2 different windows discs and still the same problem.
I ran seatools on the drive and it came up clear, except for filesystem incosistencies which should have been fixed in the format.
I am able to write to and from the drive on my other computer fine but it wont boot the windows install.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Check the jumpers on the drive, it may be set to slave rather than master :)

make sure ur doing a full NTFS format... not a quick one...
failing that... there's an app i cant remember it's name tho... think it's like drivedestroyer... that goes through and does a super format... ;)
also try maybe going to FAT32 instead of NTFS

Yeah i've done a full NTFS format, next step is to do a low level format which i havent done in years and cant remember how to do but google is always there.
As for drive destroyer, that sounds like a program that runs the heads off the platter and physically destroys the drive :P

K I solved the problem, i feel like a noob now but it's because I was using 40pin IDE cables instead of 80pin
