Okay, it's been a while since I coded anything, so I don't know how easy/feasible this is, but here are my thoughts, seeing as though so many leet hackers/coders poppulate CCGL. I'd imagine there is open source for most of this.

Would it be possible to make up a CCGL software package. To be loaded on for the lan, perhaps a CD to each person? Basically so these things don't need to be configured manually for all the slack lanners out there.

I'm assuming when DHCP would make most of this easier. And pre-configuring it.

Say a menu with the following things.

1. Intranet boards with all the content loaded locally, and it synchronises with the intranet boards. Which means if they are down, the content is still available. Instead of having to search for things elsewhere.

2. IRC chat, configured and cut down to minimum needed. Pulls up your name based on your DHCP IP to person things. So that every person is contactable, and can read the admin messages etc.

3. CCGL Radio, basically a shoutcast/music running continuously. The setup done so pushing a button, brings up your browser and connects you, assuming you have the right music software going. Perhaps with a copy of free Winamp or similar. Run admin messages down this and over the PA, that way people with headphones on are more likely to be listening.

Basically the idea, being that people don't have to configure each bit of sotware for various settings, so more likely to use the service. As in Zero effort on their part.

Anyway if this is all stupid or way too much effort tell me and I'll shutup.

Fair enough for the front end, but could you run this as a package?
Installs the limited IRC client etc?

Java irc client..

That being said.. It would be easier for me to set it up, so that the first time anyone tried to access the net from one of these lans (after getting all there settings assigned via DHCP), it would redirect them to the intranet, where they would have to sign up before being allowed internet access.. That intranet will have relevant connection details and software posted on it.

Fair enough I guess. I was going on the lines of.. " oh, it's loaded that as well, might as well use it... " laziness quotiant!
