The source engine is mad, this is the first RPG, that feels like an RPG :)

I had been following it since its conception way back...to tell you the truth it was a disappointment.

Compared to HL2 it runs like . for less graphics

Released with a bug that crashes the game 90% through (every retail copy) and took over 2 months to release patch to fix (my brother got up to the same part as every clan before the patch came out).

Source sound bug (fixed in hl2, not fixed in vampire)

Horrendous Combat system (its really bad)

Animations are fairly average

Some of the cut scenes are so badly done and buggy its rediculous to be called a retail version

Overall its an ok game but after we've seen what source can do with HL2, I think they could of made it alot better with a bit more effort. More blood/guts/organs, more detail and better weapon/combat system.

As far as FPSxRPG genre goes I'm waiting for Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivlian comes out (it looks awesome!!!)

^_^ my two cents

I liked it, though it was proably the best port of an RPG.

And compared to elder scrolls combat... well I won't say anymore ;)

That it came out so close to the actual game engine release, the bugs are not surprising.

Actually, the game was completed many months before half-life 2 was released, as they had prior access to the source engine, but were not allowed to release their product until HL-2 hit shelves.

Plenty of time for polish and bugfixing, but when you have a show-stopper bug like the one that just doesn't let you continue past a certain point in the game (ala fallout tactics) it just really sucks.

Nah, there is no such thing as real bugfixing before release.

Eg. Testing 200 computers, expiereinced users.

Real life... ie source engine release.

Several million users, on various hardware with various systems.

If a game comes out without bugs on a new engine, either they aren't pushing the engine or the were extremely lucky.

I was more leaning toward the fact that a showstopper that prevents you from progressing through the game should've been identified and fixed i know some minor bugs will always be present on release.

I agree, but if it's a fair way in it can be hard to reproduce, or it could be cause simply by a graphics card update.

I guess it's better to rate them on how quickly the bug is identified and fixed.
A lot of that comes down to the users too.

Kinda sad that it's easier to let users do bug testings... ;)

it's also a hell of alot cheaper for a company to release a game, then discover that there are bugs from all the users and release a patch rather than going through a rigarous testing procedure before release...

i started playing last night... still in the tutorial...

hmm, i really should start playing HL2 again as well
