View Full Version : Service Status
Figured I can't really "help" with the MR until the car's back in shape (service is going)
so figured here is a gooder place as any to keep people updated...
The Car went in for:
1, 60k Service
2, Odometer does not rotate
3, Battery light occasionally comming on
4, General look over for other problems
5, Quotation Clutch
6, Can't remember
Progress so far:
60k service done :) (the service officially states that the water pump should be replaced however they rebuilt it and said it looks to be in perfect condition)
Odometer has been sent off to a repair shop, they're going to call me to let me know how much it'll cost before proceeding(a speedo that goes to 360 or so instead of stopping at 180 would be sa-weet, so if repair is going to cost the earth I'll see what can be arranged)
They have not noticed battery light, informed them to pay it extra attention...if they don't see a problem I might start work in moving the battery to the back of the car.
During they're check for other stuff they found a worn engine mount, other then that everything appears OK (not that they'd know I guess..don't really have a huge amount of trust in they're thouroughness) have told them to replace the engine mount($400)
No final quotation on the clutch yet but by the way they're avoiding the topic the job would cost around 4k ...more on this later.
they doubt I'll have the car back by the end of the week..so sometime early next week I guess

should i be worried that your clutch costs the same as my entire car including sound system?
Not really, it costs a stupid amount of money becouse it needs a Twin plate clutch that by itself costs around 3k, and then to actually get access to the clutch you have to either pull the engine out or drop the gear box down, pretty much a case of dropping the gearbox (love transversal engines...no really)but to drop the gearbox you have to disconnect everything(2 x Axles and 1 x Tailshaft not to mention a buttload of bolts)..so chuck in another 2k of labor(estimated)...
In hindsite the MR2 would have used less fuel, probably handled better weighed, had higher efficency but less boot/rear seat space

Is the twin plate standard or can you go for a HD single plate.
Could go a HD single...waiting to see what suggestions they throw in the hat (stock is a HD single) still not more words on progress

Only go the uber clutch if you wanna do insane, off the lights, take-offs. Or, if you wanna try and spin em up off a standing start.
If you just drive hard, midnight run style, go back to a normal replacement clutch.
Better off with uber brake pads and boost controller...
actually if your going to play with boost apparently the first thing that hs to be swapped is the Turbo's...they are apparently T9's which are shockers..the way to go is straight to T13's or T15's(which are a direct bolt on) then look at more boost
ok, The beast is BACK! they did the service, Odometer and are getting in the engine mount...
Still to go
Battery: 2 x Gellpack battery's in rear instead of existing battery(current battery is almost dead)
Clutch(they refuse to quote on a replacement unit so I have to find someone who did it to estimate amount of hours involved)
Tires: 300$ per tire (ouch) the local mob are going to try to find me some second hand good tires for dirt cheap..so we'll see how we go with that
Don't get 2nd hand tires you don't know where they come from. Plus you could get 4 different brands which = .E handlings

yeah, i recently got a new set of 4 on my ride (altho a bit cheaper than yours will be) and the increase in handling is incredible...
altho 2 of the tyres i used to have shouldn't have passed rego... ;)
Interesting, yeahh well I'd be specifying the exact same tire etc..
like off a GTR someone wrapped around a pole or something :D
ooook, she's back in again (this sounds like a monthly occasion)
this time it's fixing all the . that dun work anymore after the last service and installing an engine mount ehhm there was something else they are suppose to do but CBF what it is.
I remember now! Tyres.
so
-Make the Fuel Guage work as opposed to the light just comming on after you've got 30km to go.
-possibly second hand tires..attempting for some 255/40/ZR18's
-make the ECS (electronic suspension) light work again.
The boss as said the he may possibly cover my tires..so if they're already replaced maybe I can push him for the clutch, by god that'd be sweet!
ok they've replaced the bulbs, and then attempted to get me to pay 900 (yes that's nine hundred) to replace the Fuel guage and sender...at which point I politely pointed out it was alll working just FINE before they had a go at it..
amusingly not half an hour later they said they'd found a "solution" and had it sent off to be looked at...
I imagine the fact that they are expecting me to give them a go ahead for the clutch replacement at any time is a bit of an incentive to keep me happy too (clutch at 2k or something)

I think they're taking you a ride charging you $400 for an engine mount.
Is it made of gold???

I remember a mate had a Leyland P76 all-alloy V8.
He showed me his workshop manual and just about anything began with the line "... first remove motor."
No kiddin, the engine bay was sorta big, but the engine was hard up against the firewall and anything that needed doing to it you had to remove the motor first.
"To replace oil filter, first remove motor" etc etc.
With that GTO/3000GT engine bay, I think any mechanic would quote high, mainly due to the hours he'll need, and tack on a few more hours for "HTFDIDT?" (How The Flark Do I Do That?)...
It would pay to ring half a dozen straight mechanics and compare. I wonder if smash repairs do engine mounts too? Maybe they might be more proficient at it?
being honest the reason I'm using them is they're close, everything for this car is stupidly expensive that's assuming you can buy it at all :(
I'm still sorta interested in someone that can make a extended sump and slap on some new manifolds etc with some GT3040 Tubbies for kicks (I'd love it to be worth planting past 5k) *sigh* oh well, maybe next time 10k falls in my lap haha
Edit: it'll probably be going to advant or someone for that..unless I can find someone who will personally do it for dosh..anyway that's gotta be like 4 months away
in a suprise move the boss offered to cover the repair costs of my car..so it's going to be finished for thursday evening for a trip down to canberra (I was amazed)

congratulations. hope to see it running soon! i still have yet to actually see the car moving or even idling...
only saw it parked at phatLAN
yeahh, she a beauti, still found other stuff to fix...no cruise or horn (dumb barstards at broadi automotive at hornsby eat penis) and 2nd and 4th are very very hard to get out of (Jax at thornleigh diden't have time to adjust the gear positioning)
anyway it's great did around 1000km over the weekend and wasn't even slighly sore.
oh and a stupid stupid beatch in a red car s-ed my door and diden't leave a note.

:( supersoaker + battery acid, just squirt every red car u see, ull eventually get em :)
HAHA!!! HAAHHAHA AHHH god.
okies, I found that the problem of getting out of 2nd and 4th was simply that when the shop that put in the gearbox they forgot to check that the linkeges were clear..so the blow off Valve was hitting it..simply cable tied it out of the way and bob's your uncle :)
also found that the horn and cruise control not activating was a simple connector under the general mess that is the wiring nest under the steering wheel, reconnected it and everything works perfectly B)
of note I really have to get under there and sort out all that -, it's really a mess with the Unique imports mob finding some spare space and bolting some spider thingy alarm in there and simply strapping it to a nearby piece of wiring >.<
anyway that's pretty sorted, there was also a spare plug that I coulden't find the socket to that came out of the loom just near the Rear windscreen wiper control and silent exhaust thingy (non-stock exhaust so it doesn't do much hehe, maybe make it double boost allowed by blow off valve at a later stage?!)
last but not least the rear windscreen washer motor does not actually put water on the windscreen which is very annoying especially for the dirt road outside Kelly's place(the GF) it must be time to replace the hoses and flush the water bottles with washer fluid that actually contains some sort of soap compound(bought some washer compound that goes in the container and is mixed with water...just gotta add it)
