Guys, if you release it to the public, or even a closed group of testers outside the team. It's a beta, not an alpha. Alc, Geggs, check your SDD notes sometime.

I'm damn certain of this and we shouldn't keep telling the community here that they will eventually play an alpha version, when that's just not how things are done. If you can find me *any* evidence that alphas are in fact supposed to be released, then I'll retract my statement.

The public won't be getting our alpha. However, people at the CCGL will.

We will be selecting a group of testers if you recall in another thread, and we will directly give it to them. Not hosting it on a website.

Although these testers will not be on the development team, as they are selected they are still considered "in house".

When an alpha is made, it is to be tested IN HOUSE.

As long as we dont put it up for open release, it is an Alpha.

That enough evidence? Get retracting boy :P

Beta's can still be given to closed groups as well. Look at the World of Warcraft beta, or the Gmail beta.

I'm telling you, an alpha is not given to any form of closed group outside the team.

That's not evidence. I mean documented evidence. As I said, check your notes sometime.

were not talking about a public release, just a server running at a lan for testing...

that way we can have say 30 different people all testing it and we will find alot more bugs than if it was just the few of us...

That's what I'm saying. That's called a beta. Look, if I must, when my back is good enough for me to bend over and find my software notes, I will go and scan them and attach it here. Then you can try reading my handwriting.

Firstly, Ogre relax.. you have a bad back and there is no need worrying over something this petty for now.

Secondly, AlC... we are not putting our alpha on a lan, Ogre is right, its for in house testing only. When we are happy... then we take it to the lan as a Beta.

Thirdly... Why are we having this discussion seen as the only thing we have atm is 2 not-fully-working mutators and some maps?

Jeez

Because people in the public forum are getting the impression that they will be able to play the alpha. This isn't helped when Alc tells them that they can either. I was trying to sort this issue out in here first before I start disputing him in public.

We don't want it to come time for the alpha and the fans start getting disappointed do we?
