hey i'm just entering the world of laptops, and i'm not quite sure in comparison to desktop how stuff works for sure, so instead of wasting my money i shall ask.

i plan to get a memory upgrade for my IBM thinkpad A31, it has two 200pin SODIMM slot compatable with DDR 2100.

my question:
as in desktops you can have 3200 DDR in a 2700 slot, and it works at the slower speed but still works.

so if i buy a say, 256mb 2700 DDR (as they are cheaper than 2100) will it still work in my laptop but at the slower speed???

i have currently installed 256mb of DDR2100, and this is not adaquate for WIN XP, i would like at least 512 or more.
