Fedora is an excellent place to start.. Very easy installer, and an OS where you can accomplish everything from both the command line and the gui.. so you can start of using the interfaces and move over into the command line at your own pace.
An excellent mixture of ease of use, and power :P

taking the plunge is usually referring to jumping into something that is going to be difficult, but worth it

i'd love to move over to linux.. i'd do it right now (well i'd have to download iso's first)..
but.. i only have 1 pc.. and little hdd space to work with (prohibiting dual boot)
only reason i cant move to linux cause i wont be able to play the games i enjoy anymore.

and that cedega app and give it a shot..
i'll have to re format my partition tho.. cause its in NTFS.
but.. as long as it dosent mess with anything else i'll be fine..
nice to have a little 5gb windows partition on the start of the drive :P
edit: :( looks like i will have to wait.. planetmirror links maj posted in other thread are down for maintenance
edit2: wee.. back up.. but.. there are like 5 folders.. :S.. i'm guessing i386 right.. but do i get the FC4-test1-i386-SRPMS disc's or the FC4-test1-i386 disc's
and oh god this is going to hurt my cap a bit this month :S

I've got Mandriva coming (cbf dling so got CDs coming for a few bucks...)
Also have SimplyMEPIS coming on CDs...
Will have to wait to test them on my server though cause something died in it (RAMies I think) and both my spare desktops are out of action cause I misplaced my spare RAM...
But once I get a desktop working I'll experiment like hell and if I get proficient enough and if I can run and do everything I currently do without limitation, I'll go linux all the way... (Because the Linux CDs are cheap, I don't care if it doesn't come up to my expectations)
Also, I think Linux's downfall for me is the myriad of versions on offer... truely baffling for the layperson...

i'm just going to bust out a stage3 install for my athlonxp..
its only a simple desktop system so i dont think i realy need to go all out with a stage 1 or stage 2 .. so hoping that will cut down on come compile time.
installed for 3 hours last night in vmware ... before i accedently hit ctrl-alt-del and rebooted the vmware linux os.. .ed the install.. and cbf starting again.
i'll bust out and do the proper install today after i trundle down the street and get some blanks.
