View Full Version : Internet restriction?
ok i have 256k at home, i could upgrade but that means i would have to pay the excess on it and i dont want to, i preffer to pay nothing (my parents pay).
my setup, 4 computers with winXP Pro, 1 (mine) for gaming online, the rest just browse
a ADSL modem with 4 port switch built in.
so my question to all you u83r 1337 ppl,
can you limit the speed that the other computers connect to the internet so that i can play CS with a constant ping, and they get like 56k, i get 200k :D.
cheers

Install Netlimiter on every other computer in the house, throttle them to something horrible like 3.5kb/s and watch the pings stablilise.
I used to limit my sister to 10kb/s when we first got 512, she didn't like that ;) Changed to 1.5 and haven't bothered since.

there are also routers out there that give priority to games over everything else so no need to limit other pc's, the router dose it for u :P

yer my linksys router (with 3rd party bios) has support for QoS wich works realy well in this reguard..
i use it to give my mum's laptop higher priority over my pc so it wont hinder her if she just wants to jump on and do a little web surfing or do some email stuff.. if i'm downloading or what not.
not perfect but does make a little difference
i'm testing net Limiter and so far so good, its just a bit sketchy with limiting apllication, ie. Downloading @ D: 6k U: 2k, and playing @ D: 16k U: 4.
atm were paying $50 a month capped @ 15Gb after that reduced to 74k.
24mth contract, done 12 in july. but they have released new plans, as they do, so i might try to switch as there cheaper or faster. my parents cant be bothered switching provider, and so far the service has been flawless for a year, no down time. i've only past the 15Gb once :P.
but i was just looking for software, but thanks for you help :)
