Just a quick tutorial for those, like me, who want to rip their own chit due to being unhappy with ppl still conforming to the 700meg CD format...

Download and install the following in this order;

The Gordian Knot Codec Pack HERE (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gordianknot/Gordian.Knot.Codec.Pack.1.6.Setup.exe?use_mirror=o ptusnet) (When the page appears, wait a tick for the DL window)

The Gordian Knot Rip Pack HERE (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gordianknot/Gordian.Knot.Rip.Pack.0.28.7.Setup.exe?use_mirror= optusnet) (When the page appears, wait a tick for the DL window)

AutoGK HERE (http://www.autogk.me.uk/index.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=1)

(be aware the divx pro in the codec pack may be adware... use a different divx pro install if that bothers you)

After installation, you'll really only need to use DVD-Decryter that came in the rip pack and AutoGK.

Simply put a DVD in the drive. Run DVD-Decryter and rip the correct stream off the DVD to where you want the vobs to go to (me = desktop as I want to see what I am working with)

After this is complete, run AutoGK which is that simple GUI that utilises the Rip Pack software like DVD2AVI. Pick the vob1 off your desktop as file input and again, give a destination for the output .avi (again, for me = desktop)

Steps 3 and 4 in AutoGK are up to the individual. I choose max quality in the first drop down and then check custome size in the second and choose between 1.0-1.5gig depending on the length of the movie. (True Lies was 2+ hours = 1.5gig)

Then in advanced settings I choose 160 audio and forced subtitles and auto width...

Then when all the settings look good to go, I add job then start...

I have been prefering the xvid as opposed to the divx rips and I always fully check the rip afterwards for sound sync, which some ripping software stuffs up on... But not with this system yet...

Move the finished avi to you share directory of choice and delete all those vobs and working files off the desktop...

Anyone for a 1gig rip of Harley Davidson And The Marlboro Man?

:D

PS: What I forgot to mention was that the process of ripping takes hours, so do it on your server/spare poota or on your single system when you goto bed...

Great guide mate but
choose max quality in the first drop down and then check custome size in the second
If you choose customise size then that overwrites the previous choice of maximum quality.

Listen to the man though, all you need is DVD Decrypter and Gordian Knot Codec Pack and you can rip DVDs til you drop.

The first rip I did, the predifined size was on 2cd 1400 or whatever, so I clicked custom size and made it 1.5gig or whatever... it still came out chopped into smaller files, but 1.5gig total size...

So I force of habit choose max quality so even when unchecked, does not chop the file up into CD size files.

From the guide, just incase you changed something between those two rips:
A Custom Size won't be split. If you happen to choose a Custom Size of 1400 or 2100 MB, then it will be split, like a 2 or 3 CD rip will be split. If you want a Custom Size for those sizes, then make them for a slightly different size, such as 1401 or 2101 MB.

I musta done something wrong... but I still go max q anyway to ensure it doesn't happen... no skin off my nose...

I'll try it with my next rip and if it ignores the file splitiing it'll prove I musta done something wrong...

Good guide. But last time I checked, wasn't Gordian Knot filled with spyware?

Only with the DiVX Pro... it is addware...

So if you or anyone can obtain the DiVX codec a different way (Yes I am sharing a solo divx pack with crack) all you do is install the gordian knot pack and uncheck divx pro.

lazy *$#$@'s just untick Divx...besides GK rarely keeps up with holding the latest DivX in it's pack so your better off Divx'ing your machine up separatly...of course the pro's use Xvid.

I've been using xvid... looks smoother where similar colours are...

My rule of thumb is;

> 90min = 1gig

90-120min = 1.0 - 1.25 - 1.5 gig

Hence ROTK Extended = 2hrs each = 2 x 1.5gig files...

It helps keep the consistency in my rips so everything I do looks the shiznit...

nice, I'd so love a set of high qual LOTR extended rips with AC3 transferred

I'll have all extendeds 1.5 gig per half but I don't know what audio AGK does... You pick the stream but not sure if it remains ac3...

I take for granted its not ac3 and I would need to use another app again to rip them...

I've done 1gig rips of Harley Davidson And The Marlboro Man, and Hudson Hawk...

Moofies notoriously hard to find shared... and if shared, some 600meg krap rip

I also done Carlito's Way, and Scarface, both 1.5gig and the Hannibal Lecter moofies...

Hey Fauxpas,

My mate ChelseaClinton created a guide to ripping using XVID. This is how its done properly & everything is 100% once complete.

I will host the guide for you.

I checked out that guide and it may be the proper way, but man, complicated compared to the way I am currently doing it...

I am really happy with the rips I am churning out... will turn to that guide if I have probs...

XVID = good
DIVX = bad.

The 'proper' way is way more complicated than this procedure. AutoGK makes quality rips and if I find one that's hard to do or turns out .ty there's always the internet - to buy the DVD.

Yeah I find that buying the DVD gives me the highest quality copies... but I don't want a house full of dvd's kthx... or movies that are more than two files max

fauxpas

I am ripping DVD's I own, so I have bought them...

The reason I am doing this is because I am unhappy with a lot of moofies being unavailable on dc++ at lans and if you do manage to get a rip, its the KRAP...

I think everyone will appreciate the LOTR extendeds in HiQ and classics like what I have already mentioned...

This guide is to maybe get others like me to rip that classic DVD they have on their shelf that no one is sharing...
