"The new radio system which is due to come into effect by september this year (for the 2006 games) will be a digitally encrypted system (using AES or DES I think), which works on the trunking system. MMR itself will be introduced into all emergency services simaltaneously (Police, Ambulance and Fire Brigade), however the Fire brigade radio's will not be fitted with encryption because the encryption units are not intrinsically safe.
This will allow the police to access database systems at will, rather then radio in for such information. Also it means all scanners out there, listening in on Police radio frequencies, you only have one more month of fun."

Central Coast Police switched over to Digital long ago, even though the law states that you are allowed to listen in on emergency services, paranoid .ers!
