k... at CCGL, I installed BF2 without issue on my lappie with radeon card and old drivers...
When I got home, I did the same thing to my gamer but it won't play. It has 6800U with latest drivers and when I goto play the game, the screen goes black, flickers a couple times like its changing res, the HDD spins a bit, then after 10sec or so I'm back on the desktop...
wtf?

I was having problems too..
Installed the DVD Iso, put both the 1.1 and 1.2 patches on.
Could get into games fine, but after about a minute or so it would drop me from the server. Incredibly annoying, and cant seem to find out why. Might have a look around ze interweb.

rocky had the same problem as you faux, he reinstalled and it worked fine, if the screen still goes black just wait it's a problem with the 1.2 patch i think, it takes a bit longer to get to it, and as to the getting dropped from the server upgrade your vid card drivers i had the same problem, i upgraded the drivers and it worked fine

Using no DVD crack...
The blackness returns to the desktop by itself, not because of impatience...
I have it working now, but unpatched...

True... but I didn't pay retail for HL2/CSS... and that's my game of choice...
I'm not gunna pay retail for BF2... I'll wait for it to be heavily discounted...
I did pay US $17.99 +tax for DoD:S
