*** Please note i have not named the bank or the people who i have dealt with to resolve this matter as it is still pending. However, if i do not receive a satisfactory resolution i will not hesitate to update this post with the full bank details as a warning to other customers. ***
Approximity 3 weeks ago i opened a Visa Debit account with a Large Australian Bank. I was informed at the time that i would have to wait about a week for my card, then another week for my PIN. no problems so far (i have to say at this stage the customer service was quite good). i received my card, called up the Large Australian Bank to setup netbanking, and as an afterthought decided to change my PIN at this point in time. another week passed and i did not receive my PIN, but didn't think about it as i already had a working PIN and the account was intended primarily for internet banking anyway. Today i received a letter from a lady in South Australia (I Live in NSW). inside this letter i found my PIN notification letter, torn open(the PIN was visible), and a handwritten letter from the lady.
the letter basicly told me that my pin number had been sent to her in the envelope that hers had come in. Her letter stated that she had not attempted to open my PIN notification (blatant lie, the letter was open and the PIN was visible) and informed me that she had kept it for several days before deciding to send it back to me instead of to the bank.
now, i have several problems with this, the first and foremost being the fact that my personal information has been sent to another person, along with my name and address and a WORKING PIN NUMBER if i had not changed it. this would have provided the person with ample opportunity to attempt fraud (which at this stage does not appear to have happened).
my second problem was upon calling the bank, i was basicly told that 'these things happen' and that was it. i am taking it further to the bank's customer relations department and will have to wait and see how we go.
if you are a member of any other large forums (OCAU anyone?) please pass this information on, and i will keep this thread updated as i know more. the point of this thread is a warning against this Large Australian Bank, because if they send the wrong pin numbers out to people, what's stopping them from sending your brand new shiny credit card to someone else?
