*** Please note i have not named the bank or the people who i have dealt with to resolve this matter as it is still pending. However, if i do not receive a satisfactory resolution i will not hesitate to update this post with the full bank details as a warning to other customers. ***

Approximity 3 weeks ago i opened a Visa Debit account with a Large Australian Bank. I was informed at the time that i would have to wait about a week for my card, then another week for my PIN. no problems so far (i have to say at this stage the customer service was quite good). i received my card, called up the Large Australian Bank to setup netbanking, and as an afterthought decided to change my PIN at this point in time. another week passed and i did not receive my PIN, but didn't think about it as i already had a working PIN and the account was intended primarily for internet banking anyway. Today i received a letter from a lady in South Australia (I Live in NSW). inside this letter i found my PIN notification letter, torn open(the PIN was visible), and a handwritten letter from the lady.

the letter basicly told me that my pin number had been sent to her in the envelope that hers had come in. Her letter stated that she had not attempted to open my PIN notification (blatant lie, the letter was open and the PIN was visible) and informed me that she had kept it for several days before deciding to send it back to me instead of to the bank.

now, i have several problems with this, the first and foremost being the fact that my personal information has been sent to another person, along with my name and address and a WORKING PIN NUMBER if i had not changed it. this would have provided the person with ample opportunity to attempt fraud (which at this stage does not appear to have happened).

my second problem was upon calling the bank, i was basicly told that 'these things happen' and that was it. i am taking it further to the bank's customer relations department and will have to wait and see how we go.

if you are a member of any other large forums (OCAU anyone?) please pass this information on, and i will keep this thread updated as i know more. the point of this thread is a warning against this Large Australian Bank, because if they send the wrong pin numbers out to people, what's stopping them from sending your brand new shiny credit card to someone else?

you still should hesitate, you can still get in trouble for disclosing such information publicly.

PM-ing people, however, is a different story...

i think it is serious but you are over reacting. she didnt get your card and if she did, then she couldnt have used it long before getting caught and you would not have had to pay for any of it anyway. its a simple mistake, your pin getting sent to someone else and the best thing to do is calm down and get another pin. or close that account and start another one. i can see your upset with the "these things happen" remark but these things do happen and crying and kicking isnt going to do anything. just change the pin or open another account

i think you just a girly git, GET OVER IT . happens in life, if it happened to me i would be like meh, if any money was withdrawn it is the banks fault and they would be more than willing to cover such a thing if it was their fault

I was paid for selling my mini [previous blue mini] (about $3k), funds went into my bank account. All was good...until....some waste of space techie froze my ENTIRE bank account because he thought it was a fraudluent transaction......nevermind the fact that at the time i was in the middle of nowhere trying to pay for fuel when they froze it. LUCKILY....it was a Friday...and by chance there happened to be a commonwealth bank branch in a newsagency across the road......

Took 2 hours, and lots of swearing for the commonwealth EMPLOYEES to convince the idiots in the head office to unfreeze the amount that was in my account prior to the car money being deposited....then another 48 hours for them to unfreeze the funds from the car sale.

So my car sat at the servo, while i stood in a bank waiting for some - to press a few buttons. At first they said i didnt have an account with them.....omg...it was so painful.

Im happy to say commonwealth bank service is up the .. They want customer feedback, well theres mine. :D

I just had something like that happen. Went to pay for groceries on the weekened only to find out that my keycard had expired. Ok my mistake I didn't check. So i rang up the bank asking for a new card to be sent out when the assured me one had already been sent out. They asked to confirm my address. They sent my keycard to the house I lived at like 3 years ago! Stupid banks.

And yes I did update my address when I moved.

Actually he was referring to mental age, in which case he still is 12 :D

For the record, a bank card is a type of credit card. You meant account card.

it was St George... they got back to me and told me that these sorts of things happen all the time and if i dont like it, i'm welcome to take my buisness elsewhere...

i would strongly advise against anyone looking to use St George in the future, this is the sort of customer service you can expect.
