firstly, how old are you?
Are you willing to do work experience, eg for free?
Are you still doing school / tafe ?

with most computing companies, they wont touch you without having either someone already with the company that recommended you, previous experience in a similar role, or qualifications coming out ure a$$.

With the maccas front, i was there for 3.5 years, was on the safety committee, crew trainer then crew cheif and in interviews i would ask whether it had a baring on my interview. They always said that the safety committee showed an interest in going a step further for the company and crew cheif showed i had leadership qualities, so i suggest staying at maccas, get as much out of them as you can and then look for something else.

And with belkin, there are atleast 10 of us at CCGL who are looking at a position there who have experience in the field so al i can say is take a number and get in line :D I worked at belkin in the warehouse for roughly 6 months, i got to know alot of people there and hopefully when i do apply for a position there it will have some bearing that i have already spent time with the company in some respect, so yeh...

Make sure you got a good resume and cover letter to catch the attention of employersand dont try and start at the top, it will get you no where.

Id honestly stick with maccas till uve finished school, they have need for having you on in a full time capacity so u can get experience out of them while still finishing ure education.

ahk, well im 15 and a half,
and yes i would do work experience for free if i had to, but a local computer store like CUPS computers could also be a good place for a first job especially when you like dealing with computers.... i do like macca's but heading with something that may make more money and has some rough, basic outline in computers could help me alot.

keep replying ppl thanks for ya time.

First off.

Finish Year 12.

Then take another look at what career path you might want to take.

Dont throw ureself into working at 15, thats not that smartest thing to do when getting a job in IT is so damn competitive.

Like xL said, you need to get a reference from someone in a company and/or half experience constantly coming out ure -.

Get to year 12 and if u still want to do IT, then look at certificates at tafe or if u are really keen to get into IT and can actually put some effort in then do either a Bachelor of Computer science or a Computer engineering degree.

A degree will get you places quicker if you chose the right uni (eg, work placement through UTS).

Ure 15, got plenty of time to look at ure options. Id suggest stay at school and get a UAI, look at uni if u can, if not go to tafe. Dont go out into the workforce without finishing year 10 or without some form of RECOGNISED qualifications.

point 1. i've already got a job at macca's.
point 2. im just looking for a better solution towards a casual job besides macca's (eg. there is like chemists, food markets, maitance and so on.

I was just wondering if anyone works at like maybe a quiet computer store or something like that where i can get a lot more out of what i do at home.

anyway thanks for ya replys guys :)

keep em coming.

aight.

Do something easy, and try and have fun whilst doing it.

I worked at Red Rooster for a 6mth period, and that was enough. I'll never go back to fast food, but I've had the experience and know personally how I took it.

You're obvioulsy into computers, so try and get into something as mentioned.. A local shop like CUP would be a good start possibly.

A good job in my opinion would be to work at the Cinemas. I know 2 people quite well who both work at different Cinemas (Greater Union and Hoyts) and they absolutely love it.
Good money, good environment, good "work".

When I quit Red Rooster I ventured to Woolworths. Never looked back, probably one of the best decisions I've made.

I live within walking distance (15 min walk) from the shops. The work is easy (scan scan scan) and the pay is reasonable. (Alot better then what my mates get at Maccas and what I was getting).

It's your choice, but Maccas experience is thought of very highly in the workforce. Stick out the full year, and start looking. DO NOT quit without definately having a 2nd job lined up.

I think if you got 2 years of Maccas experience you would be doing well.

aight.

im in kinda a similar spot to you, but you might wanna look into other things as well..

for example, for yr 10 work exp this year just gone past, i worked at an advertising agency in nth sydney. Ive spent the past 4 years learning the adobe digital media suite (namely photoshop) and because i knew so much, while i was there (for only a week), i put off a good impression on everyone in the studio at that agency. They had me doing proper work for the company because of the extent to which i worked on the stuff, and an NRMA ad is being published in sum magazine that i created in the adobe suite.

because of that, and because of the way i proved to them that i could do the stuff, ive now been offered casual work at that agency.

Trust me, at our age (im 16), its almost impossible to get decent work in the IT industry, and no offence, but im not sure u would cut it unless u got some work experience under your belt... I practically rebuilt ur computer at ccgl#28 when u decided to pull it to pieces.

Get ur skillz up, then offer sum local place u have an intrest in in some free work experience work, and if they like u, ask for a job. simple.

or stay at maccas and milk everything u can outa the place.. which unfortunately involves working hard, but if u get any status in the place, it goes well in ur CV for leadership and all that -...

iv started working when I was 14 & 9 months at maccas... trust me dude. Quit & enjoy life till your 18 ;)

If your seriously that keen to get into computers, I would write a covering letter to companies you are interested in & state what your intentions are. Include the fact that you are willing to work for free to gain exp.

The company I work for took me onboard when I was 18 with no qualifications / exp at all, im now 21 & fkn hate computers. Infact I couldnt care less if I never saw a computer again!!!

But before i get out of this hole, I have helped several of my mates break into the IT industry because it is not an easy thing to do.

Enjoy life when your 15 bro, go play with explosives & spraypaint ppls cars with obscene words. Dont do what I did & fkn work your ass off, I might have a room full of expensive sht that I dont need, but I missed out on a hell of a lot of parties & fun.

ahk i see where your coming from Maj, i guess ill just stick with macca's until later when im ready to start learning something new.

Thx guys for ya help..and midgewa it was in pieces because i got my mobo and cpu about 1 hour before i was at ccgl, but now i am quiet capable of putting a pc together from scratch (did it with my last one).

Its just what i ened up realising is thatthe molex plugs on that bitch of a psu weren't holding on the hdd and cd drive.

But i think you tort me some . and i thank you :)
just reasently got that Cool n' Quiet technology going on my 64 very good piece of software for ccgl, won alot of awards.

if you are looking for work in computers here are a few qwords ofd advice.....

1. you will only get a technitions job at a little local computer store
2. you will not get a technitions job at a big company without lots of qualifications.
3. tech support jobs are not beneth you. ask maj, drspeed, brainless and the alikes.... i think they like their jobs.
4. offereing free "work experience days" will not get you work.
5. dont bother getting into a computer job untill atleast 18.... live life first.

if you still wish to "learn" some things in a local computer shop give us a call.... we wont give u a "job" but u may like it to look pretty on your resume.

1. True
2. True
3. Yes i actually quite like my job and i know it can take me somewhere provided i put in the effort
4. It may not get you work but it shows that you have had a certain level of experience in a position, and shows that you are willing to do almost anything for progression
5. Agreed

hahahah

CUPS takes it up the behinnie.....

bugger working for free, so some cheap tool can take advantage of you.

Keep working at maccas and do some of the stuff they got there

as said before - crew -> OH&S -> Crew Trainer -> Crew Chief -> more if you want.

I worked there for a number of years and i got into it and it looks fecking great on a resume, cause in effect Maccas is breeding managers....

As your only 15 - fecking enjoy yourself - work to buy . like cars and booze and going out with mates. More enjoyabe than working all the time..

Just gotta remember that you work to buy stuff and support your lifestyle, not the other way round.

Maybe even concentrate on studies like subjects that will push you in the right direction after skool.

Well theres my 2cents worth.
