Its actually quite fun to do... cheaper... and you know its been done and you know what's in your car, oil wise...

The only bit I won't do myself, which hardly needs doing, is fuel filter if its the newer ones.

But if ya wanna do a top job, go;

Oil
Oil Filter
Air Filter
Spark Plugs

Then go oil and oil filter every 5,000 ks.

Check Air filter and clean (blow with air) as many times as you can before it needs replacing...

The best thing for your motor is clean oil, not expensive oil.

If you check your dipstick and the oil is really dirty, you can do a double fill. Drop the oil, leave old filter in, put new cheap new oil in and drive for 1/2 an hour. Then do oil and filter.

Prices should be;

Oil $20
Oil Filter $10
Air Filter $25 (for panel filter)
Plugs $20 for a set of 4 I think (only get NGK, Nippon Denso or Bosch... DO NOT GET CHAMPION OR AC DELCO)

1 note.. when changing an oil filter make sure the old o-ring is not stuck to the engine or it will piss oil everywhere. Fuel filters a a piece of piss wheter its a new car or an old car. Oil and oil filter are good for 10 000km or 6 months, whichever comes first. Only use recommended plugs. What ya got against Champion plugs faux, i use em everyday and ive only had 1 gap close:)

5,000ks is much better, specially for non-new cars... also, if the car is driven hard, al a midnight run, 5,000 is better. Also, check oil colour as you don't want it going black... black = dirty, dirty = bad...

25 years experience of them stuffing up in my own and mates motorbikes and cars... They obviously work, but I have never had an NGK, ND or Bosch plug fail or screw up. I have had Champion screw up twice for me and many times for my mates. I won't touch them again, and I haven't for the last 15 years...

At the end of the day, NGK and Bosch are the best for normal cars...

apart from the fact i wouldn't know how to change all this stuff, i haven't had the car serviced since i got it, shouldn't i take it somewhere first?

If you dont know what you are doing phoenix, go get it done by a mechanic.

When U get a complete service they do more than just check ure fluid levels.

Its nice to know when ure shocks are going......or when you need new CV's.....etc etc etc.

Unless you can diagnose problems like that and have all the neccessary tools to fix them, and also all the basic tools to complete a full service, dont do it ureself.

Basic service is easy. Oil, water, plugs and brake pads and filters.

Dont take anything apart you dont recognise.

There are engine flushes that can be bought from BigW.

After a flush and oil change, check your dipstick regularly to see how quick it goes black...

I unfortunately have to get my 90,000 service now, which will set me back $400. Can't wait till warranty runs out so I can do them myself...
