View Full Version : DoD Comp Proposal
For the DoD comp, it seems one of the biggest debated issues is the map list. So i thought we should sort this out now.
I've always thought that objective maps (i.e. blowing up something, or recovering something) should not be included in comps, simply because of the screwy scoring, and that one side is nearly always extremely advantaged, there has always been alot of complaints about flash, and if the team numbers get increased, it will only get worse. Map choosings for the comp will remain random, but will be done rung by rung.. i.e. all first games on one map, 2nd games on another map. and so-on
The map list i propose is this
Avalanche
Anzio
Donner
Chemille
I would like to add the two UGS custom maps to the map list aswell.. as i have looked at them pretty closely and have good potential for good games

I also propose that the team numbers be upped to 6 players, to bring it up with nearly all other online comps.. it has been 5 players so that clans could easily carry over from CS.
Also the Double Elim. Comp went for a prolonged period of time but with some refinement, and stricter time schedule, should still be possible. But i don't know whether clans maintain dedication to the comp once they lose..
So.. The questions are.
1. Are there any complaints about that base map cycle?
2. What is your opinion on having the UGS Custom maps added to the cycle?
3. Do you want 5 or 6 man teams?
4. Maintain Double Elim comp style, or revert back to straight knockout.
Please try and avoid any personal attack or anything, which seem to happen quite frequently around here :wink:

flash is gay for finals.....or at all for comps, but other then that all is good
custom maps are good, but i think we should have some prac time before the map starts so we know what we're doing and get to know the map (also an explaination of what we have to do on each)
6 ppl is better, makes it more strategic...breaking off into teams of 2/3 or whatever, just gives ppl more to work with
maintain double elim, it made it more interesting and it gives the "not as good" clans to play against each other......cause yeh with the draws the n00b clans always seem to get axed and dun wanna play
btw this map per round thing......how does it work? just pulling out a map after everyround......or pull all the maps for each round all at once?
we should get Chris to randomly choose maps for us......he does it for the members prizes

You make some good points. As for my opinions:
1. Those maps are very good comp maps and very even. I would also suggest KALT. It is underplayed and VERY even. I would probably suggest 6 man teams for this map however, due to its structure.
2. I haven't played these maps, so I'll have to wait and see.
3. I am of two minds about this one. Maybe a trial at the next CCGL. Teams seem fairly balanced and well spread over the current maps (Excluding Flash), but a 6th player may or may not be too much.
4. Personally, I liked the double eliminator. It gives lesser (I tried to make it as PC as possible) teams more of a chance and with refinement I feel it could be damn cool.

The problem with kalt was that it was too even.. We played on it once before and it was only decided by one point.. One team can just camp with an MG, a Sniper and the rest just camping, and the other team will never break it. Although with the new, traditional scoring system it may be feasible.

I agree with everything you state except if the double elim is to be kept it should not used to the same two clans always end up in the comp together after already playing each other. Use it as a runner up placing or something. I much profer the straight out elim, but if people want more games thats fair enough, just the whole same clans playing twice is really getting really annoying.

1. I don't think the base map cycle should be drawn out of a hat, for just an idea maybe we could have a set list of maps then change them each lan, for example: if donner was a final map, next month it would revert back to 1st round map, and semi final map would now be a final map, etc
2. I'm all for having the UGS custom maps but, i think having the original maps would be better, purely because harrington can get EXTREMELY spawn campy, and railroad...well...i hope you mean railroad2 =>
3. Definately 6 man teams, and i think CCGL is ready for it too...bout fkin time :P
4. If there are about 6-8 teams, revert to straight knockout, if less definately double elimination, and if your complaining about straight knockout cause you only got to play one match well, ask another team for a prac.
And may i suggest for the map cycle:

Merderet i put in there cos LAG wanted it last lan, and i just wanted to get 4 maps there.. but i think chemille would be a better move looking at it now
I have UGS war on Harrington tonight against lon so that should be a good chance to give it a thorough play test.
And i think it's just railroad i have, (just got it from UGS site), the map looked interesting, but if you have a better suggestion..

and have the ppl who lose in the second bracket play for 3/4 and the same for the first bracket
1. I like apoc's idea of rotating the maps between comps, that way its set, and only good maps are played, but different each 1st round/final.
2. New maps are good, especially railroad 2
3. 6 man teams would bring the comp into line with those played online, easier on strats.
4. I like the double elimination ladder, but having to beat a team twice in a ladder an get tedious, maybe have the teams in the losers bracket at the end play off for 3/4 would work
BTW dont pin mederet on us, we wanted chemille codsarnit

i reckon just railroad and not harrington. 6 v 6 will be much better, but we are cool either way, if it was 5 v 5 we woiuld field two teams, but 6 v 6 makes for better games. Those maps are the best. gw too :D

Yeah all sounds cool MCUD, especially the same map policy for each tier. Coz last comp we got flash twice which probably gave us the upper hand on in the final coz we had played it recently. But yeah everything else sounds hunky dori and ill chat to turri and see what kinda . we could possibly rustle up for the comp, eg. prizes, free lans etc.

CS sucks unless you use elites.
Meanwhile I would prefer merderet in the maps cycle over chemille.
Chemille is just a stupid stupid map in general. Everything else looks good to me though.
Top stuff MCUD.
Oh and have servers ready when needed.
Servers are allready set up now.. the transition to DoD 1.1 slowed the process a little, but it's all configured now.

On an irrelevant side note I cannot come to CCGL#22 as there is a party involving women and alcohol which I must attend so '.LAG.' will lose.
They rely on me and me only.
