There’s loads of fuss and hype over DirectX 10 and the impact that it ’s going to have on gaming. It’s not without good reason since this is one of the biggest things to occur in the last few years. If you want to see a good rundown of upcoming games that have been confirmed will be taking advantage of MS’s new platform (with screenshots) head here (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1010840&postcount=1)

without seeing actual in game, hud an all shots..
to me stuff like that will never be more then hype generators.

sure it all looks kick ass, but as far as gamers are concered, unless its going to run smooth, with as little cost input as possible, it wont be werth it.

the 2 biggest online games at the moment would have to be CS and WOW.. and you dont need to go out and spend allot of money to get a machine to run those smooth.
so unless the games can scale down, run smooth and still look good, aswell as good game play.
they wont be anything more then just another flash in the pan.

That's the whole point behind dx10, its much more efficient than dx9. In any case its all talk till vista/dx10 cards come out. You will need vista for dx10 as it stands right now. Not sur what the linux crews are doing about that right now, maybe you can shed some light on that?

i have only 2 things to say on the topic, one as far as i'm aware there's no dx10 cards out at the moment so there's no point in reading about dx10 because to the consumers it's all theretical from microsoft and who can trust a corprate entity to tell the truth about there product, and two anyone who's had a look at the latest release candadit for vista will know that not only will it not be in stores any time soon and even longer untill people will but it, but any benifits of the more efficient system will go right out the window because of all the flashy bullshit vista has in it, seriously you're gonna need dx10 just to get to the login screen let alone run a game, and benchmarking will be a thing of the past people will just check the fps they get on windows, i realy don't think dx10 will make that much difference to the gameing world at least not anytime soon after it comes out

my point was, dx10 will be usless on a dx9 video card. just as dx9 is usless on a dx8 card.

to get use the tech you will have to upgrade.. i dont see some next big thing game coming out that going to bedazzle everyone enough to bother

To you all... we'll see. I doubt it'll dazzle everyone enough to upgrade straight away, but I'm sure you'll all make the upgrade when you feel it nessesary.

@ Phoenix_12: Here's hoping nlitewill be written for vista and we'll be able to remove the flashy bs.
