well, i've come across a new playing app for my MP3's
currently deciding whether its time to retire foobar2000 and replace it with this.
have been using it all day now, and i cant really say a bad thing about it.

has a bit of an itunes layout to it. all pretty straight forward, i haven't needed to go into preferences so far except to just have a look.
will auto sync your music folders so if you add new stuff you don't have to specifically add it in.

crossfader works really well.
very simple to use, everything is pretty much drag and drop.
sound is good.
only uses around 7-8mb of memory, so pretty light weight.

the shuffle function works really well, i'm hearing things i didn't know i had or have not herd for a long time even tho they have been in my foobar2000 list for a long time.
still playing with it for now.. no final decision say yet..
but, give it a shot, see if you like it

Not bad at all...Might consider using this instead of foobar as well, i'll give it a good workout and suss-out first...

I like some of the features.

I might give this a testicle.

It's gonna take a lot to separate my foobar though, after all the time I spent on it and I still somehow rooted it.

I use iTunes becuase of my iPod also. There are some things about itunes that I really dont like, e.g. the problems I encountered with the last itunes update when all my music disappeared....
i'm not to confident on using other programs with my ipod though, as I really have no idea what I'm doing anyway.
but I have to say I like itunes better than media player....

In all honesty I've only physically seen 1 ipod up close. Can't say I was impressed with the interface either, took me ages to figure out how to do thing I do with ease on the pda.

hey ipods aren't that easy for the uninitiated, never used one before except for a friends shuffle which broke 2 weeks after purchas and the warrenty guys wouldn't replace it, so not terribly impressed with them

normaly i use winamp but i've recently been directed to a program called radio tracker, it has a masive list of internet streams helps you sort them add to favorites lists add wish lists for specific songs or bands and best of all helps you rip what your listening to to mp3 or straight to ipod or other mp3 player, have a look for it, don't have a link was given the program by a friend but it works a treat

yeah they only stuff up because most ppl dont realise there is a moving part inside the damn thing, which is funny when u see them break it.
also another thing is the cases u can buy some of them have a magnetic clasp, my sister has one and its deleted her music about 4 times and her ipod isnt responding sometimes.

but thats the joys of mini HDDs i personally prefer the shuffle due to its ability to be chucked around.
flash memory ftw!!!

being that a hdd has a pretty freakin strong magnet in it, i don't think that is an issue.you have to almost litterally hold the magnet to the platter for it to do anything.

anyway, that aside, i just got my ipod back, replacement one..... turns out it was just the cable. heh. i haven't taken this one out of its plastic cover yet as i want to try and keep it scratch free.

does anyone here actually use any other programs to manage thier ip0d?

Ive been using this

Wasn't too bad; a few things got me angry

Strike 1:

I added the irc plugin to spam your currently playing song.
+ The msn toast plugin (so you can show your msn buddies what song your playing).

For some reason it just closed. Deleted them and it worked.

Strike 2:

The look. At first it was good for simplicity; then I wanted my old foobar back.

Strike 3:

I saw a new foobar I wanted and uninstalled musickube and went back to foobar.

That would be true were it not for the ipod having a 1.8" drive, i've seen and heard too many stories where the HDD gets damaged because they put it in their car on one of those magnetic phone holders, they are some pretty strong magnets and as you would know (because i showed you) the HDD is pretty close to the backplate of the iPod, coupled with the data density required i reckon that would make it more susceptible to damage than desktop drives.

If you are really worried about the hdd get a nano they use flash :P

Although my ipod is coming up on 2 years old now with no HDD Faults,
they can be thrown around within reason because the HDD is hardly ever active, it buffers at least 3 songs ahead while you listen on my ipod photo, with newer ipod's having larger buffers (probably to deal with video's and such) i couldn't imagine the terrible battery life i would have if the hdd was constantly on.

This buffering can be demonstrated by playing a song, pause the song and remove the HDD then hit play, your player will keep playing at least 3 songs!

But i digress,

I use iTunes for a few reasons
* iPod sync with Address Book, iCal, iPhoto and Music
* Music store! better quality than a lot of mp3's you will download.
* I have 4 Computers in my room at the moment, with iTunes i can share my library and just have it appear on the other machines without any configuration at all, and instantly start playing the music.
* with an Airport+Airtunes base station you can stream your music to your stereo wirelessly or over the wired lan.
* Works with my Apple Remote so i can skip forward/back next/last play/pause and
* Front row integration - Like Windows MCE you can use the Front Row frontend and browse all your media all from the included Apple Remote.
