point5 with Chosen of 3MGaming

I'm here tonight with captain and founder of 3M, Chosen.

So who is 3M?

Chosen says:
3M stands for the 3 minute men, it was really a pun a bit of a funny sexual joke name as well as the fact that COD1 round times are 3 minutes. We are basically a group of 17-25 year olds that play games hard and work hard.

What is your current line-up?

Chosen says:
Our line-up for our main squad is Chosen, Dozer, Asterix, Homicidal and Josh. We also have another top eight team called 3M happy squad. It’s for our other talented players who prefer to play in a fun team and just joke around. To be honest they are very scary and often get within a few rounds of us. They are also a very talented team. Having the Happy Squad gives us flexibility for later on if we need someone to come up and play for the main squad.

What are the aims for 3M, and where do you plan on heading in the near future?

Chosen says:
We want to be as competitive as possible but at the same time keep it real. We really don’t want to lose our focus. We want to be competitive but at the same time, have fun. This is really my main goal. I have been in the best teams in Australia for call of duty but at the end of the day I have enjoyed my time more just having fun.

I want to have a fun competitive clan who takes it seriously but can also take losses in their stride. We don’t see losses as the end of the world; they are just merely something to learn off.

3M is regarded as the 2nd best cod2 team, with f-zer0 being regarded as the best, how do you feel about these claims?

Chosen says:
Well in regards to f-zer0 they are a talented team with heaps of talent. But in the same sentence, we have the same amount of talent. It all really depends who plays the best on the night. Unfortunately it was f-zero’s night for the ACL-i Grand Final. But you do need to remember that we were missing some key players from the original line-up. So yes I agree f-zer0 may be slightly ahead in skill now that they have durst but it’s very close. I don’t consider us 2nd. I consider us even to be honest with you.

Cod2 isn't seeing much airtime in the Australian Gaming Community, or even internationally for that matter. Where does 3M get the motivation to play cod2, and not switch to another game?

Chosen says:
There is roughly as I see it, 40% quake engine players. 60% valve engine players. I don’t like the game play of CS or CSS and a lot of other gamers prefer COD game play over CS so that’s why we can get the motivation, we love the game play.

What do you feel needs to be changed to make cod2 a more played game in Australia and internationally?

Chosen says:
Infinity Ward need to definitely start patching, getting CODTV etc working and fix the bugs that the gamers want fixed. The game is definitely more random then CS but if these issues were fixed I think it would attract a larger portion of the gaming community. But if someone could organise an Australian LAN, with real prizes and real clans competing that would be a good start in my opinion.

We have for a long time wanted to make a community site like www.3mclan.org. No one has a site like this where any user can upload full videos and share them to their gaming friends. For us it was really to help the COD2 community grow. I want to see the game last. But without resources that we are offering it would be even harder.

How would you rate the cod2 scene in terms of competitions, events and players?

Chosen says:
There at the moment are really only 3 sides which are really in a league of their own. There are about 10 clans after this which are close but not really where the others are at. There are virtually no competitions bar the GA ladder which offers no real prizes and the only other ladders are private ones which offer no real incentives also. So really at the moment I only play it because I love the game. I think it needs to step up a few gears, a few sponsors need to see the potential it has and put some cash up there so they can run a real ladder where there is something at stake if you lose.

We have always wanted a sponsor to help push some serious prizes so we could offer a ladder.

Thanks for taking the time out of wars and pracs to sit down and talk with me. Do you have any Shout outs?

Cheers to Estyles hosting for their ongoing support through our quest to make an auscod mirror for all cod related files. www.estyles.com.au
