For those of you that know me I've never been a fan of the old "We so gonna do this " and "were so gonna do that". Theres always heaps id like to do but quite often were unable to fullfill. So if nothing changes and nothings confirmed im reluctant to ramble about it.
But today i have some news that may interest some of you :)

OK so CCGL's been a bit quiet lannage wise and for good reason - From the time we left the racecourse, (yes i know, but million dollar race horses and lanners just dont work well together-it was only a matter of time before there was an "incident" - race horses are stupid - they can quite happily walk next to cars driving at 80 kph but drop a cardboard box 6 inches onto the ground and they jump 6 feet sidways (not unlike Adams car in the wet in Umina :P ))

Anyway from the time we left the racecourse it has been difficult finding permenant venues to run from and covering the escalating costs associated with what we do. Lanners and 3 day LAN events are not welcome at most places - On the Coast they just dont understand us and our specific needs.

Still with all these problems you guys have stuck with us and persivered through scorching summer events, dwindling attendance, constant venue relocation and all the probs that come with that.

While there are still 10 guys that want to get together regulary and be part of a social group CCGL we will continue to run and i have some good news for those interested in parcipating in 2007 events.

Main problems that needed to be overcome were;

1 Venue. - we need to have permenant venue, were we were welcomed to run our events and have support to grow and develop, to assist with;

a) Pre-lan set up Set up time needed. Few admins available for setup.
b) Internet access
c) Lanner comfort
d) Lan opperating times
e) Room to expand / run larger events.

2 Costs - we needed to limit the amount of money spent on overheads-CCGL hasnt been able to cover costs for some time and was at the point of being unable to be subsidised anymore. If CCGL was able to break even or better, making some money, we can reinvest into CCGL providing better services and prizes. Current areas for concern;

a) Public Liability
b) Venue hire cost
c) Hire of tables / electrical / trailers
d) Other miscellanious items
e) Prizes

3 Sponsors - running more than 1 or 2 events each year and expecting prizes to be handed out en mass by companies to support 5 player clan comps is pretty impossible. To come up with 15 prizes per comp(1st second third) just for one comp is near impossible on a monthly basis.

OK heres the good part - THE FIXES :)

1 Venue - We now have a permenant home at the Gosford Youth Centre. They are happy to have us as one of their regular customers running 3 day events.
We are able to securely store as much equipment there as we want. This means that nearly all the gear can live there and we dont need lots of trips taking stuff over and in turn setup is quicker. Also we dont beed to hire a trailer.
They have the elevator installed so taking gear to the top rooms will be heaps easier.
They will be extending the second level around and over the Karate room and making them large conference rooms with dividers that will give us huge amounts of room - all aircond. We have also been asked to participate in the plans for the extention for the planning of internet, electrical and seating needs of CCGL. With showers canteen and the access to the added room in the basketball area we are well covered for all types of events we run.

2 Costs
I have managed to reduce the cost of Public Liability Insurance by paying for yearly coverage as opposed each event and got a better deal to boot. This makes it more reasonable and affordable. As you may have noticed there is a poll on CCGL's main page to findout how many lans you want and how many we need to pay cover for over the year - The contract needs to be signed next month so finetuning the number of events we will run will further optimise PLI costs.

The Gosford Youth Centre will be charging us a more reasonable fee per event than the other places we have used - this combined with less insurance have given us a 40% saving in these 2 areas.

CCGL has paid off all the 3 phase gear so no more hire costs.
CCGL has purchased a number of table tops and legs - some repairs needed but in conjunction with table supplied to us for free by the Youth Club we are now covered for up to 120 people.

So now to cover a basic event we calculate we need approx 60 - 70 paying lanners. This is actually pretty close to the attendance of the last 2 events.

Finally prizes - any extra funds will be put into prizes as well as any sponsorship we get. We firmly believe in providing both door and competition and will work on a few ideas to attain this on a regular basis.

One idea we have implemented is going back to selling computer gear - Adam and i have started a new business called Jadz Computing Services - This is the financial fund raising face of CCGL - Aus eSports. All profits from this venture are to be invested back into CCGL Group to cover costs and provide funds to assist in prizes and development. Offering online prices and storefront support / access as well as income from webhosting and server rentals we have secured the future of what we are trying to achieve with our community, both at LAN and Online.

Now that the fundimentals have been sorted Tommy, we can now focus on the actual LAN events - this is where u guys come in. What do you want and how do you want it ?

firstly, YAY CCGL!!!!!

ahem...

if this is possible, it would be awesome if we could have the dates for the entire year worked out and posted so ppl can plan to attend the lans. getting regular attendance will help build numbers, as well as build support for games which are being run in the comps.

also, it would be good if we had a volunteer for each game to help ppl setup and let people know before the lan exactly what patches/maps they will need at the lan, we all have decent internet connections now, so lets take advantage of that and have everyone ready to go before the lan. this would also help with stuff like dedicated servers.
i'm more than willing to put my time where my mouth is and help out in this regard.

also, a section on this forum to specifically discuss CCGL events, to try and build activity on this forum back up to what we used to have on the old ccgl forums.

as far as comps go, it would be cool if we had a few set games that are going to be in a comp every lan (such as BF2/CSS/DODS) but set a time for a new game every lan to try and promote different games (not just newer games, i'd love to see a SOF2/UT99/Commander Keen comp going ;) )

i agree having the dates beforehand would help alot of people plan ahead i think, and also have volunteers run around well before the comp getting everyone ready and aware of what they have to do, and as always i'm ready to help out in that regard, as far as the comps themselves go, i'd say haveing the same games over the period of the year would help, as the last few lans the comps being held was up in the air untill the actual lan, understandably not every comp can be held if on the day not enough players sign up for the comp however i think at least having a list of comps that will be scheduled will eventualy if not right away entice more people to come

I am running Counter Strike from now on, so I am willing to help out BEFORE the comp.. Its lanners responsibilities to have everything updated and patched before lans, but if somethings not working admins are there to help, so come see me if you need any help with Steam/Counter Strike(source mainly) B)

When the numbers pickup for comp, we should get Alc casting the games in tournaments :P, Turri hopes to have 8-12 team comps in the near future :)

Wow what a post TuRRi .... thats awesome to hear ...

Maybe a suggestion ... and i know some admins might not like this, but to help with overheads ... maybe look at them paying a reduced price to get into the event, to help cover your basics... just a thought.

Some already do, and I'm not talking about reduced prices.B)

Gaming related video podcasts, with some form of advertising inserted to bring in extra $$ for CCGL. Because we'd all love to see Adsor and Turri more often! :)

Lots of the US podcasts make a fair bit of $$ off of Godaddy and other advertising setups.
