Hey guys i want to see if there is anyone wanting to play some quake 4 at niagra park ccgl. I bought it last month and i've got it completely up to date with all the battle mods and competitive maps. If anyone feels like leaching and playing some q4 that would be great.

Think it would be worth while seeing what the ccgl community thinks regarding q3 v's q4 as a tournie or general game play

The Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) announced today that it will use id Software's Quake 3 as the primary featured one-versus-one game for the soon to be announced CPL 2006 World Season.
This decision was made after the following votes were submitted:
The CPL tournament staff - 90% in favor of Quake 3
The CPL world partners - 90% in favor of Quake 3
The CPL 1v1 committee - 85% in favor of Quake 3
The gamers (that voted on the CPL poll) - 80% in favor of Quake 3
The decision to host Quake 3 competitions was made based on existing features in Quake 3 that will enable the CPL to focus on providing the best tournament experience for both competitors and spectators.
This decision should not be regarded as critical towards id software or Raven, but should be considered a compliment of how well Quake 3 has withstood the test of time. The CPL will continue to provide feedback to id software on Quake 4, to help improve its tournament features until such point as the community feels that the game has the necessary features to replace Quake 3.
With almost 80% of the poll voting being cast for the return of Quake 3, the community of gamers and the competitors spoke out regarding which game they preferred to be playing at the 2006 World Season. The players have cited gameplay, GTV, and the large user base as reasons for their choice.

Smart :D yet to actually try Q4 though, Q3 is still my no.1 played game

Being the resident CCGL q3 admin and server runner.
i would have to say, as a comp, no we went be running quake4, it is in no way on par to be used,
quakes are known for being a very fast action packed games, requiring fast reflex's, a keen eye, and an even faster trigger finger. To which Quake 3 is all of those and sadly Quake 4 is none of those in a competition sense. that is why it was rejected by CPL and all the other major comps.
But thats not to say, people wont play it, I'd be more then happy to have a few rounds @ the LAN, so if you want to get a little pub game going, just run around screaming to everyone "COME PLAY QUAKE4!!" and I'm sure you will get some people that will play in no time.

I've been playing a bit by myself on the 1.4.1 patch lately just learning some maps and getting strafe jumps and crouch sliding down. Can someone tell me if they use a config to get the weapons out or if they actually use the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 on the keyboard to bring out each weapon?

i think that Q3 will always be the best for comps until as Blot0 says as a comp, no we went be running quake4, it is in no way on par to be used
