Well, the proxy system we have been using for the last few lan's is getting an upgrade!
We are going to have a new intranet and new file server!
so any request for files to be mirrored on the server?
At the moment its just got the steam cache, windows patches, av updates and original install media for XP,Vista and windows 7 (sorry no keys :P )
post the links to the files you would like mirrored and ill add them.

so let me get this straight you are going to come to the lan to sit on the internet and play poker with people who are not at the lan? What is the point of coming you can be just as anti social at home......

i think the easiest thing to say would be just get missingo's server :D but meh, maybe i'm being too picky :P
keep it simple, maybe linux iso's, and some major game patches / updates.
As for the poker stuff ... Alca, seriously :P we may aswell just put a table up and play @ LAN :P no need to play online and loose when you can do it with people you can get up and hit :P

and for the record, i'm not going to sit there all weekend playing poker... it's just handy to have the option late at night if there's no games going, plus there are several juicy 10k games over the weekend i usually have horses in that i like to keep an eye on

Last time I was at CCGL YouTube was blocked. I would like to see YouTube unblocked from the internet please. I understand how using YouTube can slow down the internets for everyone else using it but while YouTube was blocked alot of other popular video streaming websites were still available. I know it would be near impossible to block them all, so that's why I am asking for YouTube and the blocked streaming websites not to be blocked to keep consistency and to make me happy, as I use YouTube to look at secrets and glitches in games while i play them. And also for the lols :)

Are you paying for insane levels of bandwidth? I wouldn't want youtube accessible at a LAN. Its bad enough that WoW is playable IMO, last thing I like seeing at LANs is people being all anti social and playing WoW alone. You can sit in your basement and to that :p

I know about the bandwidth issue but my point is that a lot of other similar streaming video websites were still accessible, giving me the argument of, if you can have some, why not have all? unless you can block all mass streaming video websites (or at least all the known ones) then there's no real point in blocking one.
I'm not arguing or trying to start a flame war, I simply would like to put my point across.
btw WoW doesn't use much bandwidth at all, about 1kbps. and its not anti social if your mates are sitting next to you raiding or something with you in game.

You make baby jesus cry.
Also, anyone know if 3 has reception there and just not roaming?
Would be a good time to try out tethering

wow uses close to 20/10kbps idle in dalaran. raiding it's closer to 40
edit: by the way are IRC connections unblocked? cause it'd be pretty handy to connect to irc like usual during downtime.

A dozen WoW players won't suck up the GB's, but a few people chillin for a couple hours on YouTube will rack up quite a bit.

Hi Andy - thanks for bringing this issue up - its always leads to a bit of confusion and fustration. It gives me the oppurtunity to clarify what "internet at CCGL" means for all participants.
CCGL is a LAN event, but people forget this and seem to think we should provide all the services they would get at home.
The internet is primarily there for Steam. Steam is a pain due to people not updating their steam games before a LAN and continually login in over the weekend. So ideally our net provision is dedicated to steam so there are no problems when we run comps and games over the weekend. Now that people have been updating their steam before events it has freed up some bandwidth.
So we added msn and so far at previous events the 2 have worked fairly well together.
Then, when WOW emmerged many CCGL members were unable to attend due to "Raids" n other related situations associated with the nature of that game. So we worked out that we could enable WOW access. Reason being that WOW was used during the evenings when the steam reqirements were minimal.
Patches / drivers that partipants may need over the weekend can be downloaded by the admins at players requests - see admins during the event for support. Bring you flash drives - makes it a lot easier.
So there you have it - the proxy will be monitored closely over the weekend and any other use of net causing event / or participants problems will be picked up and persons connection will be disconnected.

Back to the op, there will be a virtual bnet(pvpgn) operating which I have setup and is ready to go, for easy wc3 comp managing and also custom games like dota. The server itself is very easy to transfer to another (windows) comp but im happy to run it from my machine. Ontop there is a bit of a procedure about setting up individual games to be able to connect. Ive written out a txt file with howto steps etc along with patches/loaders/reg editors that are needed to get connected. It would be good if you could transfer the files and instructions to the server/intranet so people can get access it and connect without hassles. Anyway its a bit late for me to post this, so ill talk to you tomorrow about it Ben.
p.s. I didnt know you played poker alc, I play ring tables most thursdays at star city, are you ever tehre?
